Cognitive style

Article available on: Русский English

Cognitive style (Latin cognitio “knowledge”) is a term used in cognitive psychology to describe the stable characteristics of how different people think, perceive and remember information, as well as the way they prefer to solve problems.

Cognitive style is usually distinguished from cognitive ability or level: the latter is measured by so-called intelligence tests. There are still disagreements about the meaning of the term “cognitive style”. Nevertheless, the term “cognitive style” is widely used, especially in applied business psychology, as well as in pedagogical psychology, where it has a synonym for “learning style”).
